TEACHING METHODOLOGY
Without mathematical literacy career opportunities shrink. So, it’s very important to build a good foundation early.
It’s no surprise that confidence is a huge factor in students’ anxiety towards mathematics. Previous negative experiences with the subject can lead to a negative attitude. To overcome this, we provide students with regular confidence building exercises that are challenging but enable all students to do well.
While fast learners move faster, slow learners are said to be suffering from failure syndrome.
Math is all about problem-solving using strategies. Sometimes, there's only one way to solve a problem, but many times there are multiple avenues to the answer. When teaching, we model several strategies for understanding and exploring concept & encourage students to apply high level skills when given problems and focus on the thought process involved in the solution.
Our brains are machines that thrive on connections. In fact, long-term memory is a complicated web of neurons, or brain cells, banded together. To help students make sense of concepts, we provide them with connections to the real-world applications. Also, we pay close attention to how students react to the connections.
Math is typically a progression-based subject. Skills build one upon another, and the order in which they're taught is predetermined. We use assessments to determine student understanding. Formative assessments are meant to check in on student learning and drive future instruction. This helps us identify students who struggle and allow additional small group or one-on-one instruction.
We facilitate learning of slow learners as well as moderate and fast learners. We help fast learners while, provide slow learners more time, more repetition work, and often, more resources to be successful.
Learning math is all about playing with problems, exploring, failing & looking for clues etc. We give them full freedom, the gift of ownership.
Students will have opportunities to discover, reason and communicate mathematics. They will engage in stimulating discussions and activities where they can explore possibilities and make connections. These qualitative changes require a change in the teaching and learning approaches; incorporating activity-based and learner centred methodologies. Mathematics is also a subject of enjoyment and excitement, which offers students opportunities for creative work and moments of enlightenment and joy. When ideas are discovered and insights gained, students are spurred to pursue mathematics beyond the classroom walls.
We wish all the best of luck in studies and great success in Math!
